Garrett's Games 129 - Scripts and Scribes, Agricola

A day late, but we're back to Shelley and me on the microphones having some fun and discussing good games.  We delve into two games this time - Scripts and Scribes, a solid card game from Dr. Finn's Card Company; and AGRICOLA as a 2-player game with Shelley properly learning the ropes this time.  We also discuss the news of The International Gamers Award nominees.

Enjoy!

    Doug,

Although I am aware of you and your wife's long term dislike of dice games in general, I wanted to suggest to you that in spite of that you give Kingsburg a chance. Although it uses dice, it does so somewhat innovatively and I haven't found anyone yet who did not love the game. There are a load of different choices to be made each season of each year and over the course of the game, the sheer number of dice rolls seems to even out the luck of the dice. Also, as there are a few different modifying mechanics that can give your dice rolls greater flexibility such as plus 2 counters and a building that lets you fudge your roll by one up or one down, bad rolling becomes less of a problem. Just a suggestion to return to you some of the pleasure your podcasts have given to me, do try Kingsburg. You may be in for a very pleasant surprise in spite of your prior experience with dice-laden games.

    best,
    Neal.

    Neal,

OK, I'll have to hunt this down and at least try it.  BGG.con might be as good a place as any, so if no one has it around here, I'll have to wait until then.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Doug
