Garrett's Games 148 - Timber Tom, Mexica, Heimlich & Co.

Shelley and I talk about the GORGEOUS new game Timber Tom, discuss our disappointment as we revisited Mexica, then I talk about a wonderful gaming experience with my students playing Heimlich & Co. at school.  Also, we hear from a couple listeners who have entered the current contest to win a copy of Wasabi!

I love this game and agree with you that it is easy to play for everyone. For younger children, I recommend giving options per move, including clarifying that heading North then West, for example, is the same thing as heading West then North (perhaps to completely avoid a tree and get the same distance).

At 9:38, you state that you “plant on the same level anywhere on the board”. Also, at 14:10, you state that “you only get to place the trees when you move to a new level”.

You may place trees on any level that is green or brown (no flood areas, snow capped areas, huts or heli-pads). This may be done on any turn in which you end your turn in one of those zones (or draw a card with a tree planting value).

The official rules on page 9 state “Trees can be planted in ANY tree-planting zone after:
    a) your move is finalized in a tree-planting zone (the ‘green’ and ‘brown’ zones)
    b) you draw a card displaying a tree-planting logo
    c) “Rolling 4” with the game dice (remove and replant 1 tree)”
